Duke University Medical Center researchers reported that molecules called polymers may be useful in combating inflammation in clearing damaged cells. This is a potentially effective treatment for autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis and lupus, in which a person has a hyperactive immune response. The study was published in the
Proceedings of the National Academy journal. The senior author Bruce A. Sullenger said BЂњOur study found a method of inhibiting the process by which damaged cells affect the immune response. BЂ «
Sullenger said that this new approach, based on previous studies that have shown that damaged cells are shed nucleic acids like DNA and RNA and circulates throughout the body via the bloodstream. Inside the cell, the nucleic acids regulate growth and reproduction, but outside the cell, they signal the immune system that something went wrong, leading to activation of the immune system and activated immune system lasix 50 mg targets primarily cause cell damage. But under certain circumstances, the inflammatory reaction becomes hyperactive causing tissue damage and the person suffering from fever and pain. Scientists prince aimed at developing methods that could break this cycle and as a result of nucleic acid binding polymers which facilitate the penetration of nucleic acid into cells that otherwise might trigger the immune system. Sullenger said BЂњWe found that these polymers can bind to nucleic acids outside cells without affecting the normal functioning of RNA and DNA. BЂ "
co-author David S. Pisetskyy said that this anti-inflammatory approach can be applied to autoimmune disorders, and acute tissue damage that occur during injury, bruises and viral and bacterial infections. Pisetskyy not believe in long-term effectiveness of this approach in humans. However, he showed that the emphasis on acute events as injury, the effects of these polymers can be easily identified because the presence of nucleic acids in the blood can be easily identified as the binding polymer. .
